2026: Peter I Island

We’re building an organization of 25+ experienced DXpeditioners committing to and capable of executing some of the rarest and most difficult entities to activate. In the pipeline we have two exciting DXpeditions planned.

Because we are running the two DXpeditions through the same organization there exist synergies for the equipment, logistics and resources committed to execute these complex projects.

We will stay up to 21 days on Bouvet Island

We are a team of 3 operators, 4 support people, and an remote operating team. Our budget is US$440,000 but 2/3 of the budget is already secured. We still need to raise US$150,000. Most importantly, ALL NEEDED PERMITS AND CONTRACTS ARE ALREADY IN HAND.

We have signed a contract with a vessel owner

We have signed a contract with a vessel owner with a proven track record in Arctic and Antarctic waters. The experienced Captain has been supporting expedition teams since 1997 and before that has been managing his own fishing trawler for decades.

We are teaming up with an expedition consultant

We’re also teaming up with Peter as responsible for landing us safely on the beach, similarly to what he did this year. We are three persons with previous experience from landing at the island. Peter’s experience, skill and determination is again an important factor for success! We have been through some 3YØJ lessons learned where everything have been scrutinized to improve the next attempt. This time we plan 3YØK based on our previous Bouvet experience!

We will use small Honda generators

We will go only with smaller Honda gasoline generators, and it will be a lightweight DXpedition but still with some yagis and amplifiers. Weight is reduced from 7 ton to 2 ton. Peter will be leading the support team of total 4 younger persons, that comes in addition to the radio operators.

RiB - Remote Operations have been terminated

We've decided to eliminate the Radio in a Box / Remote operations and Only operate Live on the Island. This will allow All contacts to be valid for IOTA / POTA / WWFF credits A revised diagrammatic site plan will be posted by April 2024

Dedicated North America radio camp

Dedicated North America camp will be established 600m further West, on top of a small hill. This NA QTH will provide low angle take off to North America.
Bouvet-NA-Camp
Bouvet_NA
  • The team plans to establish a smaller dedicated NA camp, 600m west of the main camp, on top of a small hill.
  • The QTH provides low angle take off to North America, especially to the West coast. We expect improved signal strength
that together with a Yagi (beam) and amplifier should make our signals much louder all over North America. We see a reduced elevation by 4 degrees at this QTH.
  • We will equip the camp with a smaller tent and several antennas from 40-10m. The purpose is for one operator to run multiple radios one CW/SSB and one FT8, and work NA on dedicated frequencies.
  • All this is possible due to our previous experience, the area was scouted for suitability for a future DXpedition while we were there in February 2023.

New Bouvet RIB version

This is a new Bouvet RIB version that is housed in a portable, water-tight case.

The RIB integrates a Flex 6600 radio

The RIB integrates a Flex 6600 radio, a Data Acquisition and Control box (DAQ), an Ethernet Switch and a 12 V DC Power Supply. All modules are 12 V DC powered.

Power Supply: 200 to 250 V AC input

Power Supply: 200 to 250 V AC input from 6 x Honda generators. UltraCap stabilizes DC power and provides 10 second power back-up/ ride-through.

Antenna Tuner

Bias T: Injects 12 V DC into the antenna cable for a remote antenna tuner.

100W Output

Radio: Flex 6600 , 100 W output

Network Switch

Switch: 8 Port Ethernet Switch

DAQ monitoring

DAQ: Monitors generators, voltages, temperature and provides reset/power switch for the radio.

3YØK DXpedition SPONSORS

Equipment Sponsors:

We’re happy to once again thank one of the major sponsors of DXpeditions – our friends at DX Engineering.

For this adventure they have offered to provide some YAGI antennas to help focus our signals around the world.

We’ll be using much of the equipment and accessories they provided for 3Y0J last February as well.

Thanks Tim and Teri for always helping the DX community

We are happy to announce RF-KIT as our Exclusive Amplifier Sponsor for this Expedition.

The RF-KIT amplifier, made in Germany, is a solid state Amplifier capable of running on either 120 or 240 volts while delivering unparalleled performance. It can provide the power the team needs to be heard around the world. The amplifier is lightweight and durable, qualities that are needed in an extreme environment such as that found on Bouvet Island!.
On Bouvet we will have five units to use so if you can’t hear us, check your antenna..

Peter I Island DXpedition 2026

Breaking News

We have secured a vessel, and we’re now building a team of 19 operators that will go to Peter I Island in February 2026 and plan stay 14 days on the island, for a total of 20 days around the island. The vessel is a proper Antarctica vessel with 2 helicopters, two Expedition leaders and with all permits needed. We are working closely with the Norwegian Polar Institute to obtain the landing permit.

More information about Peter I Island DX-pedition will be released later. Fundraising is expected to start 2024

Team leader Ken LA7GIA, Co-leader Adrian KO8SCA, Co-leader Cezar VE3LYC and Co-leader Dave WD5COV.

Media Officer and WW Pilot: James Gallo KB2FMH

Because we are running the two DXpeditions through the same organization (Delta-Xray Group) there exist synergies as for the equipment, logistics and resources committed to execute these.
